OLDEST PUBS IN VICTORIA
It’s also important to showcase the places that create our favourite foods!
Victoria’s pub scene is steeped in history, with many establishments serving pints for well over a century!
Read on as we explore the city’s oldest pubs. Whether you’re a history buff or simply looking for a great pub, these iconic watering holes deserve a spot on your list.
1) SIX MILE PUB
We had to start with Six Mile Pub… As it isn’t just one of Victoria’s most iconic watering holes—it’s the oldest pub in British Columbia!
Established in 1855, this historic pub has been welcoming travellers, gold seekers, and locals for more than 170 years!
Today, the pub focuses on local craft beer, and classic pub food with ingredients sourced from its own garden and apiary!
When you come to Six Mile, you’re enjoying a piece of BC history.
2) FOUR MILE BREWPUB
Another BC classic, Four Mile Brewpub has been welcoming guests since 1858, making it one of the oldest continuously operating pubs in the province.
Originally built as a stagecoach stop along the Island Highway, this historic building has also been home to a roadhouse and a cabaret. Today, you’ll find the popular brewpub serving house-made craft beer and classic pub fixing.
Rich with history, ghost stories, and old-world charm.
3) GARRICK'S HEAD PUB
Now for a pub that is right downtown!
Garrick’s Head has been a cornerstone of Victoria’s pub scene since 1867 – Canadian Confederation anyone…? Tucked into the heart of historic Bastion Square. Inside, you’ll find a cozy wood-burning fireplace, an impressive selection of local craft beers, and classic pub fare, while the sunny patio offers one of the best people-watching spots in the city – but you didn’t hear it from us!
With colourful stories of gold rush days, Garrick’s Head is much more than a pub—it’s a true Victoria institution.
4) 17 MILE HOUSE PUB
5) CHRISTIE'S CARRIAGE PUB
Designed in the picturesque Queen Anne style, the residence remained in the Christie family until 1948 before being converted into apartments. When the building later faced possible demolition, it was preserved and incorporated into the development of Christie’s Carriage House Pub
Of course, every food lover has their own favourites, and that’s exactly what makes exploring a city’s culinary scene so much fun!
